Top 5 Romantic Places in Costa Adeje, Tenerife

Following on from my post ‘Top 5 Romantic Places in Puerto de la Cruz’ is my second Valentine’s Day special article. This time focusing on the area of Costa Adeje in the south of Tenerife.

This is a fantastic hotel, where you can relax in beautiful surroundings overlooking the sea. You can spend your romantic holiday sipping cocktails by the pool with your loved one, while enjoying the peace and quiet, and stunning views of this fantastic location.

All rooms are great, but to make your trip just that little more special pick the deluxe suite, which has a huge private terrace with spectacular sea views. You will also find a bedroom with a huge Sheraton Signature bed, a separate living area, and a bathroom with a shower and a bath.

The food is heavenly, and with four restaurants to choose from you will be spoilt for choice. I believe the La Venta Restaurant is the most romantic. The menu is Spanish gastronomy and has some delicious fish and meat options. All is served to you by the welcoming and professional staff. You couldn’t choose a better hotel for romance in Costa Adeje.

The Bahia Del Duque Spa is pure luxury, set in a serene location. From the warm welcome and excellent service to the hydrotherapy circuit, aromatherapy facials, and seawater Jacuzzi’s and pool, you will feel pampered and relaxed like never before. Afterwards you can spend some time in the relaxation area enjoying complimentary chocolates and coffee pastries.

For a romantic visit how about enjoying an exclusive private spa suite with relaxation area, treatment area, Turkish bath, hydrotherapy bath, and a private terrace. This spa is one of the finest in Tenerife, and it certainly shows. Your better half will thank you for a visit here!

Restaurante Sebastian is a hidden treasure in a very touristy area. Don’t let this put you off, as you are in for an amazing dinner experience, with great service in a relaxed atmosphere. The authentic Spanish food will melt in your mouth, and I highly recommend the warm tapas menu and the half roast duck with the orange and Marnier sauce, both of which are delicious!

The wine is high quality, and the Cava is excellent! For a romantic meal, this great restaurant will be hard to beat. It can get quite busy so it’s a good idea to book your table in advance.

How can a water park possibly be romantic? Well in Siam Park it can be! Here you can rent a private VIP cabana equipped with a private terrace with shower, sunbeds, towels, sofa, TV, and a free minibar with soft drinks, beer, and snacks. Also included in the rental price (per cabana by the way, not per person), is entrance to the park, fast passes to the attractions, and floats.

The all-inclusive service includes soft drinks, beer, wine, water, ice creams and food at the Beach Bar, Beach Club, Thai Bar and Thai House.

You have a huge choice of superb water slides, some relaxing, and some which will propel you down them at high speed. You can be surfing waves one minute and watching deadly sharks the next.

A day here together with your loved one, would certainly be a romantic fun day!

The Kaluna Beach Club is a wonderful place to come during the day, but at sunset, with the reflections from the last rays of light, it is stunning. The club is beautifully decorated and plays good music which helps create a great atmosphere. There is a heated pool, which is a great place to cool down in. You can also pay €50 euros for a bed or €100 for a VIP bed by the pool or overlooking the ocean. You receive the money back in the form of food and drinks. The cocktails are very tasty and served quickly by friendly smiling staff.

This club has an excellent view over the beach, and I can’t think of anything more romantic than sipping some champagne with your partner while watching the sun disappear slowly below the horizon. What a beautiful place to propose!

Top 5 Romantic Places in Puerto de la Cruz Tenerife

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, why not surprise your loved one with a romantic long weekend in Tenerife. It may not be the first place you think of to celebrate Valentine’s Day, but you will amazed by just how romantic this island can be!

This is the first of two Valentine’s Day specials. This one focuses on the charming city of Puerto de la Cruz in the north of Tenerife. So share this with your loved one and enjoy a few relaxing days together in the Tenerife sunshine.

This is a spectacular hotel in Puerto de la Cruz. Everything here is beautiful, such as the amazing artwork by Canarian artists, the relaxing gardens, and the flower arrangement in the lobby. The facilities are first class, and the hotel staff are courteous, always smiling, and can’t do enough for you.

The rooms are excellent, and all have fantastic views, which can be admired from the furnished balconies. They are of a large size, and all have flat screen TV, and complimentary Wi-Fi. There is also air conditioning, a safety box, a minibar, and a beautiful marble bathroom complete with toiletries, bathrobe and slippers.

There are a couple of restaurants inside the hotel serving delicious food, and don’t forget to try the breakfast buffet. I quite honestly have never eaten one quite like it before. There are many places to just sunbathe and read a book in peace, and they have an excellent spa area, which you can read more about below.

The hotel is up a hill from the centre of Puerto de la Cruz. You can walk down in around 15 minutes, or use the hotel’s courtesy bus to take you there and back. It is also possible to take a taxi for a reasonable price.

For a romantic getaway in Puerto de la Cruz, this hotel can’t be beaten.

You won’t have to go far to find the Oriental Spa Garden, if you stay at Hotel Botanico, as the spa is part of the hotel.

This exquisite spa, with its extensive facilities, is pure luxury. It is set in the hotel’s perfectly manicured gardens. I highly recommend the Thermal Circuit with its steam room, waterbeds, aromatherapy, and sauna. It is pure bliss! The swimming pool is amazing with hydro- massage jets and a waterfall, and the Jacuzzi in the cave is great for romance.

The staff here are friendly and professional, and are attentive to customer needs.

A visit to the Oriental Spa Garden will become your favourite memory of a romantic trip to Puerto de la Cruz.

The Régulo restaurant in Puerto de la Cruz is a lovely place for a romantic dinner in a beautiful historical building. Here you are welcomed as though you are a guest in the owner’s home. Restaurante Régulo is a family business, which makes it all the more special, and the staff here are extremely friendly and helpful.

The menu is mainly Canarian style food, which tastes fantastic. I recommend the salmon in champagne sauce, and the lamb shoulder, which is also very good. If you want to sit in the delightful patio area, then it is best to reserve a table a few days beforehand.

The atmosphere in the lovely Restaurante Régulo is relaxed, and the prices are very reasonable.

In Puerto de la Cruz you will find Lago Martiánez, which is an amazing swimming pool complex designed by Cesar Manrique. The complex is made up of many huge seawater pools, and the whole area is clean, beautiful, and well maintained. The views of the sea and the surroundings, from inside Lago Martiánez, are stunning.

There are many sunbeds to choose from so find your favorite pool, grab yourself a sunbed and sunbed cover, which are included in the admission fee, and just relax! If it’s a little too hot, then it is possible to hire a parasol for €2.50.

The admission cost is very reasonable at €5.50 for an adult. You can stay inside until closing if you like, or come and go as you please all day, though there are restaurants, bars, and kiosks inside.

This is a great place to come to wind down after a couple of busy sightseeing days, as it is always possible to find a hidden spot to put your sunbeds, and just rest for a while.

This is nothing like sitting around your hotel pool; it is a place of relaxation where you walk out feeling wonderful.

Blanco Bar is great for dancing to old school, hip hop and Latin music. The interior design is lovely, and the whole place is sleek and clean with a great atmosphere.

If you arrive early, before 11pm, you will find the bar quite empty, but this just means you can grab the best seats with a view to the street. Upstairs it’s possible to relax in an armchair in quieter surroundings, and then head downstairs when you want to dance.

The fabulous cocktails are reasonably priced with a large mojito only costing around 5 euros, which will be served to you by some great staff who tend to smile a lot. Another great drink to try is Canarian honey rum, which brings back memories of my first trip to Tenerife in 1996, where I ended up having a honey rum fight with my friends!

It gets crowded quite quickly after midnight with most people being in their mid-twenties to mid-thirties. It’s also best to dress lightly as it can get rather hot on the dance floor. Time will fly by though, but don’t worry about finding your way back to your hotel, as there are always taxis waiting on the corner by the bar.

Check out the website for the latest events.

The Edge of Perfection for Tapas at Pearly Grey

For those readers who have read my previous articles, it’s clear that ‘good food and nice settings’ are key factors on my list. For those who don’t know me, let me tell you about a wonderful restaurant which is situated in a sleepy little town called Callao Salvaje, not far from Costa Adeje. The Edge Restaurant is a hidden little gem of a place which has stunning views of a rugged coastline and food to ‘just dream about’. Honestly, this food is amazing!

It was a perfect opportunity for me to get some photographs of the sun going down and the night falling in. It was wonderful to physically see the sun moving closer to the sea and within minutes, it disappeared.

The Edge Restaurant is situated in the Pearly Grey hotel. Tapas and good restaurants is one of my specialities and I don’t just want to talk to you about what was on offer, I want to let you visualise the dishes which were produced by a fabulous chef and assistant.

The outside dining area was the perfect setting with low lighting, soft furnishings, cool sea breeze (heaters on the terrace kept the temperature spot on for an evening meal – it was December time but still really warm). Fresh, warm, comfortable and totally relaxed, ready to see what tapas were heading my way!

The mood was light and fun, sipping a drink and chatting, it was easy to see why the Edge Restaurant was appealing to the holidaymakers who wanted to escape the crowds and enjoy some top cuisine.

Chatting to one of the guests at the hotel, I wanted to get to know his opinion, especially the food. The relaxed conversation supported what I was hoping for (as I was still about to experience my food which was being prepared). The guest had returned for another holiday at Pearly Grey and his reaction was for the food, peaceful location and the stunning sunsets.

Well our food was nearly ready to be served and it was time for me to see if it lived up to the conversation we had just had or if this would be a mediocre meal. With our table all set, eyes glued to the waitress in anticipation of hunger, the plates started arriving!

Beautifully cooked cutlets which were seasoned and dressed with some spicy chickpeas. Tucking into this dish and adding some to my plate, the meat melted in my mouth and then followed the kick of the chickpeas. Fabulous choice for those diners who like a little spice added to the flavour of their food. Perfect!

Next up was perfectly rolled, fresh healthy vegetables and salad in a tortilla style wrap, which any vegetarian would enjoy. The attention to detail in the presentation of this dish was outstanding. Dressed to impress and perfection on a plate.

Another stunning and well presented dish was round, vegetable (patty like) treats. Packed with flavours that would make any palate happy and the tapas were finished off with a beautiful drizzle of sauce dressing. I even tucked into the dressing and side salad to ensure I got the full advantage of the seasons used. My appetite just kept increasing.

For diners who like Octopus, well this dish would impress you. Perfectly presented, seasoned and garnished with a bit of colour. Finely chopped and dressed with a slight sprinkle of seasoning, this kept our crowd tucking in for more.

It is easy to see how the Edge Restaurant receives praise after praise for the top class food it serves guests and diners. The dishes exceeded my expectations without doubt and it left me wanting more of the wonderful flavours and perfectly presented food. What more could anyone ask for?

Sitting back, listening to the music, the good food, wine and scenery, what a great end to our night and an added bonus to watch the stunning sunset from the restaurant. I suddenly keyed in to think about my previous conversation early on in the night, from the guest and ‘totally got him’ regarding his reasons for coming back to stay at Pearly Grey hotel and to make the most of this stunning restaurant.

The hotel and Edge Restaurant is known for picture perfect opportunities. This place is a winner for anyone who is thinking of booking a nice table for Valentines day, anniversary or simply just a really good meal or get together! The standards are exceptional and the views are just stunning.

To end this amazing night of perfect food and magical scenery, it was lovely to meet the genius’ behind the scene who cooked these amazing tapas. (Oh and the desserts are another reason to indulge that little bit more). Keep up the great work as you are an amazing team!

Thank you to Pearly Grey for providing this stunning setting and restaurant for a ‘great little get away’. Most of all, the amazing tapas and gourmet food which this restaurant offers. Reserve a table for me please, as I will most certainly be back for more!

My Stay at Pearly Grey

Pearly Grey is based in a lovely town called Callao Salvaje in Adeje. Though the town is small and was originally a village, it does have a few reasonably priced restaurants, a couple of supermarkets, some other little shops, and a lovely new beach area called Playa Ajabo. The beach is made up of volcanic sand and is a good place to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet. If you are up for it, it is possible to hike up a small nearby hill, and get a great overview of the area.

When my son and I first arrived at Pearly Grey Ocean Club nearing midnight, I knew we were going to have a fun time there! My first impression of the resort was that it was well-maintained and quiet. It was very easy to get to from Tenerife South Airport, and if you don’t have your own transportation, a taxi isn’t too costly.

We stayed in a one bedroom fully equipped apartment overlooking the ocean so fell asleep listening to the soothing sound of the waves below. It was fantastic to sit out on the balcony in the evening watching the magnificent sunsets.

The customer service is excellent, and all members of staff exceeded my expectations! I have to say a special thanks to Gemma from reception who my son adored.

On the resort there is a heated pool, which I made use of in the mornings when it was almost empty. It has sun all day long, and there is a separate children’s pool with a small playground. During the day there is a lifeguard on duty. You will also find an adults own section with some large sunbeds to rest in.

At Pearly Grey there is a laundry room and a fitness centre, so while waiting for your washing to be finished it’s possible to catch up on your training. There is also an entertainment programme with activities during the day and evening so even if you don’t like to sit still there is plenty to entertain you.

There are two restaurants at Pearly Grey and I ate at them both. The Quo restaurant has a terrace overlooking the pool area, so while the adults grab a coffee they can watch their children play. I had an evening meal there, which tasted delicious, and they made a spaghetti Bolognese for my son, which he really enjoyed.

On another night I had dinner at The Edge Restaurant, and yes, this restaurant is quite literally on the edge overlooking the ocean. Before dinner I was able to enjoy another beautiful sunset here. The views are simply stunning, and it is possible to see the island of La Gomera in the distance across the sea.

For dinner I ate with some friends and we shared many different tapas dishes. I enjoyed them all so much that I ended up finishing the last bits on all the plates. During dinner we were treated to a live performance by Obsession Duo. They played some songs that we all knew, and some to get everyone into the Christmas spirit. The Edge is a restaurant which should definitely be tried, and is one of Tenerife’s best kept secrets.

If you would like me to sum up my visit here, all I can really say is that I had such a wonderful experience that I’m coming back for a few nights again in May. Pearly Grey has now become one of my very favourite places to stay in Tenerife!

Why Now is the Perfect Time to Visit Tenerife

So you think you know Tenerife? It’s all beaches, bars and sunburnt tourists right? Well if that’s your only perception right now it’s time to totally reconsider this beautiful island paradise. It is the  largest and most populated of the seven main Canary Islands and with around five million visitors each year, it is also the most popular tourist destination of the Spanish archipelago. In fact it is one of the most important Spanish and global travel and tourism destinations in the world. What you will realise is Tenerife is so much more than first meets the eye.

Of course one of the biggest draws of Tenerife, along with all of the Canary Islands is the amazing year-round spring like climate. It is not an overstatement to say that there is sunshine and bright blue skies almost every single day of the year, with very little variation in the temperature whichever month you choose to go. You can practically stroll around in shorts and t-shirt whether you choose to visit Tenerife in the winter or summer with a winter average of 18ºC in winter and 23ºC in the summer. This is in stark contrast to the rest of Europe!

While there are undoubtedly those that visit Tenerife to spend a week laying on the beach or by the pool getting sunburnt and drinking cheap beer, we know that most of you are looking for a far more interesting and exciting vacation. We are here to tell you why now is the perfect time to visit Tenerife.

Action Packed Water Parks:

The amazing year round climate in Tenerife lends itself perfectly to outdoor activities and fun. The island boasts a number of excellent water parks which are great for all age groups, and are perfect for a day out as a couple, with a group of friends or with your family. Not only that, but you will find Siam Park, voted the best water park in the world for the fourth consecutive year in the TripAdvisor 2017 Travelers’ Choice Awards!

Plenty of Activities to Enjoy on the Beautiful Atlantic Ocean:

The beautiful climate of Tenerife also offers the perfect opportunity to get out onto the open ocean waves. There are a number of excellent activities to try out to suit many different interests. For those looking for an adrenaline fuelled adventure you can try jet-skiing with West Tenerife.

If you want a more relaxing activity where you can take in your surroundings more peacefully, including seeing beautiful dolphins in the wild you should definitely try out kayaking with Tenerife in Kayak.

For those of you that prefer to sit back and relax and let someone else take care of the sailing, then you can enjoy a luxurious VIP sailing adventure with Blue Jack Sail.

The waters around the Canary Islands are some of the best in the world for whale and dolphin watching, and one of the most established companies in Tenerife for an excursion to see these magnificent ocean animals is Freebird Catamaran.

Discover Life Under the Ocean Waves:

It’s not just above the waves that are amazing, but down below the surface the ocean is teaming with wonderful aquatic life. There are many different ways to experience the fascinating wildlife that exists there, but surely one of the most unique must be in a submarine! Tenerife has one of the only submarines in the world that is available for tourist excursions, operated by the fantastic Submarine Safaris.

Experience the Incredible Natural Beauty of the Island:

Tenerife itself is an incredibly diverse island with amazing natural beauty. This includes a stunning coastline with beautiful beaches, natural pools and gorgeous palm tree lined promenades. While most people head to the coastline of the island, especially in the sunnier South, you definitely shouldn’t miss out on the stunning inland landscape.

As with all of the Canary Islands, Tenerife is a volcanic island with a multitude of mountains. This includes Mount Teide which stands at an amazing height of 3,718-metres, making it not only the highest point in Spain, but also the highest point above sea-level in the islands of the Atlantic. It is described as the third-tallest volcanic structure in the world by UNESCO and NASA.

As you ascend up Mount Teide away from the coast the vegetation changes from palm trees to pine forests and you will truly get to appreciate how diverse this amazing island really is. The surroundings and the volcano comprise Teide National Park, the most visited national park in Spain and Europe. If you are looking for somewhere amazing and unique to explore on your next vacation to Tenerife, then you absolutely must take a hiking trip around Teide National Park. For a variety of excellent specialised tours and activities on Mount Teide and around Teide National Park, then head over to the Volcano Teide website.

See Stunning Tenerife from the Air:

To experience how stunning the landscape of Tenerife is from a completely unique perspective, you should definitely consider heading up into the air. From up above you can take in much more of the island at once and see it in a way that most other visitors will not have ever tried before. There are a variety of options available to suit different tastes. If you are looking for an adrenaline packed adventure, then you will absolutely love a paragliding flight with Airsports Tenerife.

If you are looking to soar above Tenerife in a more luxurious style but still with the stunning views from above, then choose a helicopter flight with Helidream Helicopters.

Enjoy An Up Close Encounter With Incredible Animals:

As well as the animals native to the Canary Islands, you can also enjoy an up close encounter with incredible animals at a number of excellent zoos in Tenerife. One in particular, Loro Parque, is especially worth a trip to considering it was rated the Number One Best Zoo in the World in the TripAdvisor 2017 Travellers Choice Awards.

A Huge of Variety of Excellent Places to Eat and Drink:

While you can come to Tenerife and simply eat and drink at the onsite restaurants and bars in the hotel or resort you decide to stay at, or alternatively go to the same boring British themed pubs and Irish bars, we definitely don’t recommend this. Instead there are a huge selection of excellent places to eat and drink across the island to suite all different tastes and price ranges.

These include restaurants with Spanish, British, Asian, Italian, Mexican, French and traditional Canarian cuisines and a whole host of other styles. One excellent choice, especially for those who are partial to top quality American style meat dishes is Brunelli’s Steakhouse located in Puerto de la Cruz.

Huge Selection of Stunning Places to Stay:

Too many people in the past have chosen to stay in large, boring all-inclusive resorts when visiting the Canary Islands. While these can serve a certain purpose as they take some of the stress out of holidaying for families, with less to worry about with all meals provided. Unfortunately what often happens is that those who choose to stay in all-inclusive resorts don’t end up experiencing much of the amazing things that Tenerife has to offer as they tend to stay most of the time in the resort. This means that these tourists don’t see the real Tenerife and also this is very negative for many of the businesses across the island.

Instead here at Tenerife Magazine, we recommend staying in hotels and resorts that are not all-inclusive, and also of course for you to explore the island and try many of excursions that we have suggested. One of the best hotels on the island is the gorgeous luxury 5* Hotel Suite Villa María located in La Caleta, Adeje.

As you can tell there are so many amazing things to see, do and experience in Tenerife. While you will undoubtedly enjoy the sun, sand and sea, the island is so much more than the typical stereotypes you may have heard. Make 2018 the year you decide to discover the true nature of this sun-filled Spanish paradise!

Each island has its own unique and distinguishing features, and exploring them is an amazing experience that enriches the soul. Thanks to the “Influencer program” of Tenerife Magazine I had the chance to discover for the first time the island of Tenerife and it was an incredible experience!
My stay was at Pearly Grey, an extraordinary resort in the south of the island with every comfort: gym, massage room, two restaurants, a huge pool, Bali beds with spectacular ocean view and much more! From this lovely place, it’s possible to appreciate the magnificent sunsets that nature gives each evening, with the sun disappearing behind the island of Gomera.
The rooms inside the hotel have a stylish and elegant decor, and all of them are equipped with all the kitchen utensils you may need, a private bathroom with a huge shower and my room also had two huge breath-taking terraces facing the ocean: it was such a dream!
To get around the island I used a nice car provided by Poul’s Auto car rental. To collect the keys I didn’t have to wait at any office at the airport: that’s because their cars are equipped with a security box attached to the window, where you just need to type a code to have access to your car.
On the second day of my stay, I went with the Tenerife Magazine team to Oasis Los Gigantes: a delightful recreational complex with pools, bars, and a restaurant overlooking the majestic Los Gigantes Bay. It’s a place I absolutely recommend to spend a relaxing day with friends or family!
During the following days, I explored the island from north to south, trying to discover and capture with my camera all the most characteristic places in Tenerife.
Masca’s walk was one of the most amazing experiences of my life: after taking a taxi to Masca, a village in the northwestern mountains of the island, I walked down to its valley between the imposing rocks, until I got to a wonderful black sandy beach, walking for about 3 hours surrounded by nature only.

• Masca walk: one of the most beautiful (and challenging!) experience of my life! Walking down for 3 hours from a mountain, through a breathtaking landscape and arriving in a paradise black sand beach…so a m a z i n g ! Being inside the mountains and feel their energy is such a powerful feeling! 😍 Now…I feel like I need to rest for so long… but it was worth it! 💪💪💪 . . . Visiting the valley of Teide, the highest volcano in Spain, was another exciting experience: its scenery resembles the high mountain landscape, and it’s unbelievable how in just one-hour driving you can go from the heat of the palm-lined beaches to the cool mountain weather with its green pines.
The north of the island is very interesting also: from the capital of Santa Cruz, in the northeast, it’s possible to reach in a few minutes by car the beautiful beach of Las Teresitas but also the amazing protected area of the Park of Agana.

Holidays at Hotel Suite Villa María Offer Fantastic Family Fun!

Are you planning a family holiday in Tenerife and are unsure of which hotel would be best to book? We know it can definitely be a challenge sometimes when you’ve got younger kids. Realistically you can’t just think about relaxing by the pool yourself, you’ve also got to take into consideration how to keep the kids entertained, otherwise let’s be honest they can turn your dream holiday into a nightmare! We think we’ve discovered the perfect place for your family holiday that we’re sure you’re going to absolutely love. Recently we enjoyed a weekend break at the gorgeous luxury 5* Hotel Suite Villa María located in La Caleta, Adeje in the south of the island, and we can’t recommend it enough!

This amazing hotel is very different from many others you may have been used to. Unfortunately while we often have high expectations of the hotels we plan to stay at on our holidays, the actual experience is often let down by the impersonal feel you are generally faced with. Instead of returning from a family break feeling relaxed and refreshed, by the end of many holidays, both parents and kids head back home feeling more stressed than when they arrived. This is because of the way that a typical hotel layout is structered, with too many people, too much noise and underwhelming surroundings. This time you won’t need to worry about that problem though.

Instead, Hotel Suite Villa María has been designed with a totally different look and feel, with the architect aiming to replicate the style of a traditional Canarian village with separate villas that give you a real home away from home feel. Within your villa you can enjoy an amazing feel of peace and tranquility with your family and totally disconnect, forgetting any stresses from back home. These villas have everything you could possibly need with a seleciton of one, two and three bedroom options, plus the exclusive private Bellavista Villa for up to six guests.

Each of the villas have all you could need including fully equipped kitchens, air-conditioning, free wi-fi, a terrace and balcony, separate living rooms with televisions, modern bathrooms with a separate bath and shower and of course the comfortable bedrooms. Another excellent feature for families is that with either the one or two bedroom options you can choose the option of a private jacuzzi in the garden which we’re cetain your kids will love to relax in during the evenings, after a day full of play. The three-bedroom villas and the Bellavista Villa even include private pools!

The hotel is located in La Caleta which is one of the quietest and most tranquil places within Adeje in the south of Tenerife. This is ideal as in this part of the island you will find a wide selection of amenities located conveniently close to the hotel including beaches, shopping centres and amazing atrractions such as Siam Park, the best water park in the world! Trips to Siam Park or the other nearby attractions can be arranged at the hotel with reception.

One of these fantastic trips is to see wild whales and dolphins in the ocean with Blue Jack Sail, an exclusive yacht excursion company based  at nearby Puerto Colon. While we stayed at the hotel, we went on one of their excursions which was amazing as we saw Pilot Whales and a pod of dolphins which swam alongside our boat, jumping in and out of the waves, putting on an amazing show. There was even time for a refreshing swim at the end of the journey. Overall this was amazing trip that the kids loved and we highly recommend!

What’s more the hotel is set in a beautiful location surrounded by Golf Costa Adeje, with views out to the ocean and the vibrant area of Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas in the background.

Of course you don’t need to leave the hotel complex to have a great time with two large, gorgeous swimming pools in the centre with a waterfall separating them, and a smaller pool for smaller children. As the hotel is designed like a traditional Canarian town, with 78 villas throughout instead of rooms squashed together, everything feels a lot more spacious even during full occupancy. You can almost be guaranteed a sun-bed by the pool and plenty of room for swimming. It is the ideal environment for you to relax and enjoy yourself while your kids play either in the pools or the children’s play areas with swings, slides and other features.

There are a number of great options for your meals which your kids will love. For breakfast there is an amazing buffet with a huge selection to choose from. Lunches can be enjoyed at our pool bar which serves many different favourite meal choices such as pizzas, burgers, pasta and more, plus ice-creams and cakes for desert. For your evening meal you can enjoy fine dining at La Torre Restaurant with an amazing fusion of international and cosmopolitan cuisine with their roots in traditional Canarian products and flavours.

There is plenty to keep your kids entertained and happy during your family holiday at Hotel Suite Villa María which in turn of course will allow you to enjoy your vacation. There is almost nothing worse than bored kids when you are trying to relax, because they will not stop letting you know how bored they are. A perfect holiday for kids is different in many ways to what adults have in mind, because kids, especially younger ones seem to have boundless energy. One of the most popular features of the hotel is the exclusive children’s entertainment service, with a whole variety of different activities to keep your kids entertained and allow you perfect peace of mind.

This is our villa for the weekend 🔝👍@hotelsuitevillamaria #costaadeje #villamara #tenerife #hotel

Picture a Holiday at Pearly Grey Ocean Club on Tenerife

Normally we post a review of the hotel that is featured in our fabulous holiday competition. This time, for a change, we thought we’d show rather than tell, so you could begin to imagine yourself ‘in the picture’.

Because this time our Tenerife holiday competition is a little bit different. Sure, come the end of January, there’s going to be one lucky winner picking up the prize of a week’s holiday for two at Pearly Grey Ocean Club on the sunny, south west coast of Tenerife.

But on this occasion the competition comes hand in hand with a great offer for Tenerife Magazine readers that means more than just the lucky winner gets the chance to lap up the warm welcome at Pearly Grey Ocean Club.

However, to find out what that offer is, you’re going to have to enter the competition.

Here’s a pictorial taster of what awaits.

Wake up in paradise where a couple of steps leads to an spot where it’s a joy to come round in the morning.

Your balcony is a great spot for a cobweb clearing coffee but Pearly Grey’s dining room is a quite snazzy alternative.

After breakfast those sunbeds on the balcony beckon…

…unless you’re more of a pool person.

Then in the afternoon, a drink or two on the terrace is an inviting prospect.

Before heading back to your balcony as the sun starts to descend. It’s perfect for allowing yourself to be hypnotised by the views whilst you pinch yourself as a reminder that, no, it isn’t a dream.

Checking Into Tenerife’s Hotels, Hotel Fañabe Costa Sur

During a summer on Tenerife when temperatures of 30C are starting to feel almost pleasant when wave after wave of searingly hot weather taking a vacation from Africa have pushed thermometers closer to the 40C mark, we thought it would be the perfect time to chill out, cool down and find out what the Hotel Fañabe Costa Sur, a family hotel in the centre of Costa Adeje, has to offer visitors to Tenerife.

Balcony, Hotel Fañabe Costa Sur, Costa Adeje

A Sanctuary from the Sun
In the mid-afternoon our “pleasant” stroll from Playa de las Américas to Fañabe has become more of a Foreign Legion route march. The sun’s rays are relentless and hot ““ perfect if you’re sprawled out on a Balinese sun bed on Fañabe beach, less so if you’re desperately seeking shade. By the time we reach Playa Fañabe you could pour us into a glass, but only a few more metres up the hill and we know we’ll reach sanctuary.

The bright, colourful lounge at the Hotel Fañabe Costa Sur is welcoming and cool and the smooth curves of the bar invite our presence. We ignore their call and head to our room where we know a bowl of fruit and two sun loungers are waiting.

The sun loungers are perfectly placed for ‘bronzing up’ but we decide we’ve already had enough sun. We cast off our shoes, grab a couple of ripe nectarines from the fruit bowl and drag the table and chairs on the wide terrace to a spot in the shade overlooking the pool. In front of us, the peaks and troughs of the Adeje Mountains shimmer in a heat haze whilst children’s laughter drifts up from the hotel’s pool below us. We sigh… we’ve reached our sanctuary and it feels fabulous.

The Essentials

Playa Fañabe, Costa Adeje, Tenerife

Location: A five minute stroll takes you to the sands of Playa Fañabe. After that there’s the choice of getting prone on its wide expanse or heading right where a short-ish walk leads to upmarket Playa del Duque. To the left is the marina at Puerto Colón and the small beach of Playa Pinta.
There are restaurants galore close to the hotel and for those seeking a lively nocturnal scene, the live music bars and clubs at San Eugenio are less than 15 minutes away.
A tourist train departs from outside the hotel and there’s a taxi rank nearby. Even shopping is covered with a good supermarket in the shopping centre across the road and the swish, designer shopping kingdom of the Plaza del Duque also close by.

Bedroom at Hotel Fañabe Costa Sur, Costa Adeje

Rooms: Rooms are arranged in a U shape around the large swimming pool and are bright and light with a friendly and colourful sun-kissed holiday vibe. They have satellite TVs with some English channels, hairdryers and furnished balconies, essential for relaxing with a glass of vino (cool beer or whatever) on a sultry summer’s night. Ours had a huge terrace as well as a hydromassage bath (blissful after the long walk along the promenade) and a second flat screen TV above the bed. There are double rooms, family rooms, suites and specially designed rooms for guests with disabilities. There’s no wifi in the rooms but there is free wifi in the lounge area.

Breakfast Buffet, Hotel Fañabe Costa Sur, Costa Adeje

Service: The Fañabe Costa Sur is a popular family hotel and was jam-packed when we were there, yet the staff were always smiling and friendly. Considering the amount of guests they had to deal with (at this time of year many families are all inclusive and a lot tend to stay around the hotel), they were impressively efficient. This is something we’ve noticed that is typical of all of the GF Hoteles we’ve stayed in. Breakfast was particularly busy but plates were cleared away smartly and buffet choices kept stocked.

Food: The Hotel Fañabe Costa Sur is very clearly aimed at the family market, especially during summer months, and as such the choice and quality of buffet meals occupies a sort of inoffensive middle ground that is designed to offer something for all family members. For those who want to explore the culinary scene outside of the hotel, there are plenty of restaurants nearby.

Swimming Pool at Hotel Fañabe Costa Sur, Costa Adeje

Facilities: Where the Fañabe Costa Sur excels is with its ability to give families a happy holiday, day in and day out. The pool is large with a separate section for younger children. The area around the pool can be very busy but there are also rooftop terraces which are tranquil and have their own small pools and a bar. They also have super views of the Adeje Mountains and there is a discreet nudist sunbathing section. For adults there’s a gymnasium, tennis court and a spa. But it’s the younger guests who are really spoiled for choice. With mini golf, a football and basketball court, adventure play areas, video game zone, pool tables, table football, mini club and mini disco, boredom just isn’t on the cards.

Overall: The Hotel Fañabe Costa Sur is an excellent choice for a mid price hotel for people who want to get the most of all the tourist attractions in the Fañabe, San Eugenio, Torviscas, Del Duque area of Costa Adeje. The hotel has all the right trimmings for a fun family holiday in the sunshine.

Thai Treats in the Hotel Botánico’s Oriental Spa Garden

The huge twin doors decorated with two rather fierce looking Thai warriors are in no hurry to open. Worshippers at the Oriental Spa Garden in the 5 star Hotel Botánico in Puerto de la Cruz have to wait patiently before they can enter this palace of relaxation, sensuality and pampering. It’s a neat and deliberate trick.

The unhurried doors are a subliminal way of slowing you down; a visit to the Oriental Spa Garden is not to be rushed, it is one to be pleasurably savoured.

The walkway to the Oriental Spa Garden leads past rows of elephant carvings and blue, glazed pots overflowing with delicate flowers beside a long pond inhabited by oversized carp. Uniquely Thai touches that rouse a feeling of serene familiarity; a sense that I know this place even though it’s my first visit.

As I finally pass through the ornate portal the sense of deja vu intesifies as the perfumed air adds a further sensory pleasure and the soft trickling from a waterfall cascading into one of the heated pools adds yet another. Towering palm trees and gently swaying fronds lend the gardens a lush tropical ambience aided and abetted by the presence of a wooden pagoda; an inviting temple for traditional open air Thai massages.

The reason this exquisite scene feels familiar is that I’ve experienced similar scenery and décor in the past ““ but in exquisitely luxurious hotels around Thailand itself. The Oriental Spa Garden captures the style, the look and the gentle tranquillity of Thai culture perfectly. It is a little bit of Thailand in Tenerife

The Oriental Spa Garden is beautifully elegant, sophisticated and very, very romantic.

The Oriental Spa Garden Experience
There’s no denying the Oriental Spa Garden has the looks but what about the spa experience itself?

Hotel guests can simply enjoy luscious surroundings and a thermal circuit that includes heated indoor and outdoor pools with underwater massages; jacuzzi, Turkish baths, Japanese saunas and ice temple and water beds.

But it would be a shame to not to take advantage of a heady selection of spa treatments. These range from standard massages to bathing in milk bubbles, papaya body wraps and, the ultimate couples” shared treatment, the private Gold Dragon Spa ““ two and a half hours of Turkish peeling with moisturising soap foam; aromatic baths and massages; moisturising with seaweed cream and a Turkish bath. Champagne, fruit juices and infusions are all part of the package, rounding off a deliciously decadent day.

Our particular ‘couples” treatment involved the Oriental Ritual ““ an invigorating ex-foliation and massage followed by a hot mud wrap with Arabian soil and finally a full body, aromatic massage that left me feeling as though someone had sneaked in and stolen the bones from my body. In between each treatment we retired to a sauna/shower where we were served with infusions. Drinking tea in a sauna was a first for me. It felt strange initially, probably partly down to the dream-like element of being served tea when you’re not wearing a lot (understatement). But it actually turned out to be a very refreshing and novel way to drink tea.

As relaxing, yet exhilarating experiences go the Oriental Ritual was right up there with the best of them. If I’ve ever felt so relaxed I really can’t remember when. The skin-softening treatments, calming Oriental themed surroundings and the expert touch and professional staff who make you feel completely at ease combined to deliver an experience that is addictively pleasurable and leaves you feeling 10 years younger. A post Oriental Ritual relax on water beds seemed an appropriate way to end the Oriental Spa Garden experience as by that time both of us felt as though we were floating anyway.

As we waited for the ornate doors of this Thai pleasure palace to swing open, we were in complete accord about one thing, this might have been our first Oriental Spa Garden experience… but it wouldn’t be our last.

The Oriental Spa Garden’s facilities are available to guests at the Hotel Botánico and Club Spa members. Whilst entry to the Oriental Spa Garden is free to guests, special treatments cost from around €32 to €445 for a full day of luxurious pampering. The romantic Golden Dragon for two experience costs €295. For more information have a look at Hotel Botánico’s website and imagine yourself being pampered in a sumptuous Far Eastern paradise in the north of Tenerife.
