Two more courses reviewed this month
Amarilla Golf & Country Club and Golf Las Americas

This month we are taking a closer look at two more golf courses here in the south of Tenerife, one relatively new and the other more established.
Amarilla Golf and Country Club, established 14 years ago, is situated between Golf del Sur and Costa del Silencio and borders the sea. Situated very close to the southern Reina Sofia Airport, it is easily accessible from the next junction (24), and is sign posted through Las Chafiras. From this course it is possible to enjoy the incredible views of Mount Teide, whilst being surrounded by a broad variety of canarian flora.

The designer of the course, Donald Steel, was able to use the beautiful contrasts of the existing ravines and the Atlantic Coast to produce an impressive and varied course. The first tee has you heading from the clubhouse straight towards the sea, whilst the picturesque 5th hole is real gem for golf lovers. Here, tee to green is across water, as the atlantic waves roll into the cove that replaces the fairway.

The facilities are excellent, including a driving range, putting green, pro shop, bar and restaurant. There is also a Pitch and Putt course for those that want to learn the game or just get in some quick practice. Amarilla Golf was inaugurated in 1989, and one year later hosted the second edition of the Tenerife Open, which is part of the European P.G.A. Tour.

Golf Las Americas is situated a little further along the coast, and is accessible straight from the adjacent TF1 motorway (junction 28), therefore only 15 minutes from the airport.
Opened more recently in 1998, it sits at the heart of the tourist centres of Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos, and is therefore accessible to all the excellent beaches and the other facilities a bustling resort would offer. The site is similar to a gentle amphitheatre overlooking the resort and sea views, while at the same time being protected from the occasional winds by the adjacent hills.

The course was designed to be a par 72 standard by John Jacobs Golf Associates with a total length of 6,039 metres, incorporating a group of lakes and water-filled ravines which make this a most pleasant round of golf. In the Clubhouse, which is of remarkable architectural beauty, there is a pro shop, storage area, buggy/trolley hire, golf school, bar, restaurant and much more, with the practice area immediately adjacent.
Also on the golf course itself is a five-star hotel, which has guaranteed starts throughout the year, where guests can go straight from hotel to the first tee by buggy.
